Jasper sat near the lakes edge his knees were drawn firmly to his chest. He had always like this part of Hogwarts the most. It was always so peaceful, at least it was when he choose to visit it. Jasper didn't think much of trouble and often avoided it, yet he had always seemed to land himself in some sort of trouble. He never meant to it was normally from an accident, he never meant to cause others any sort of misfortune . Yet he did and that's why he was here. He was trying to avoid any sort of potential disaster for himself and others alike. Wrapping his arms around his chest, to shield himself from the chill breeze Jasper continued to gaze out at the lakes horizon.
He was always so curious as to what lay beneath the lakes water and had mentally made a note to soon find out. He didn't like leaving things unquestioned. After mere moments Jasper felt cool drops of rain fall onto his face. Rain. He had always found rain so inviting, so beautiful. Tossing back his head Jasper closed his eyes and surrendered himself to his surroundings.
After ten minutes or so the rain had stooped. "Aw." he muttered softly. Oh well. It would rain again in do time. Maybe later on tonight. Jasper blinked his dry eyes and looked back out to the lake. It was then he realized his necklace was missing. "N'est pas bien," He groaned looking around him. The necklace his mother had giving him a few years ago and meant a lot to him. Mad at himself he stood up and started walking around the edge of the lake in hopes of spotting it.

Mara walked along the edge of the lake wondering how she could possibly ever fit in at such a place as Hogwarts. She kicked up the ground under her feet as she walked which stirred up the smell of the rain that had fallen just minutes before. The smell brought her comfort reminding her of summer vacations she had taken as a child. Mara closed her eyes for a mere moment as she paused to take in the very essence around her. The comforting smell of rain still hung in the air as she held her short reprieve.
Mara opened her eyes and looked down at the earth she had churned up. There among the bits of dirt and grass the glint of metal was quite obvious. She bent down and gently picked up the necklace. With fingers barely whispering over the cool surface of the metal, she brushed the dirt away. It was then that she looked up to see someone further off who appeared to be looking for something.
"Hey! You over there! Is this yours?" Mara yelled as she held up the necklace to try and get that someone's attention.

Jasper rolled his eyes at himself. How was he supposed to find it? He closed his eyes trying to think of where it could have dropped but with no luck he tried thinking of a spell that could find it for him. He was sure the accio charm would work best but he couldn't remember the right wand movement.
A voice rang in Jaspers ears. She sounded French which made Jasper blink. He knew his old school was a attending Howgarts now, and he certainly hoped he could find his old friends although this girl didn't sound like someone he knew. He noticed she had the accent, and he also noticed her robes were the purple one that the Headmaster said they would be wearing. That confirmed his thought to be true. Great! A smile come across his face and he started walking to her. A brighter smile made it's way to the young Hufflepuffs face when he saw that it was in fact his necklace. "Yeah! Thank you." He answered her. When Jasper approached her he held out his hand to reach for it. His wondering mind wanted to know what house she was placed in. Didn't they have to wear the house pendant on the robes just as the other Hogwarts students did? Jasper decided on asking her what house she was in later if the two were to continue talking.

Smiling, Mara handed the older boy his necklace. But then again, she thought, the word boy did not seem correct.
"Your very welcome," Mara said. Then as an afterthought, "My name's Mara Ember-Rose but you can call me Mara. I'm from Beauxbaton but you probably could already tell that."
Mara held out her hand feeling a friendly handshake was in order. Just because she flaunted her beauty didn't mean she couldn't be polite. Another breath of wind blew causing her hair to shift lightly in the breeze. The glorious smell lightened her mood even more.

Jasper smiled taking his necklace. The latch on it was broken which was why he had lost it in the first place. He figured that his mother could fix it or perhaps a charm. He didn't trust himself to try though so he decided on sending it to his parents. He placed the necklace into his pocket feeling very grateful that Mara hadn't taken it for herself. "Nice to meet you Mara. I'm Jasper Justine. You're name...." He paused and tilted his head just a little. "Is nice. Very pretty and suits such a gorgeous person as yourself." He may or may not have been flirting but he knew he was giving her a compliment. He took her hand in his giving her a hand shake then dropped it into his front pocket. "What brings you to the lake?" He asked.

Mara felt her cheeks lightly blush at such a sweet compliment. In answer to his question she said, "It is peaceful here. Plus the smells of the rain make it such a wonderful place. You now what? Your name is not bad either. Nice and masculine with a gentlemanly quality."
Mara felt the wind tug at her hair again. She reached up and pushed the bits by her face behind her ears. It really was peaceful here. No staring students to make her feel akward. Mara hated being a new student at Hogwarts. She suddenly wondered why Jasper was down here.
"What brings you here?" she asked as she indicated the area of the lake with her arm. Mara wondered if he liked the feel of nature like her.

Jasper smiled when her cheeks went a light pink. Seems like he was always good at making the opposite sex feel good about themselves; which Jasper loved to do. Seems like more and more girls judged themselves way to much causing them to believe their own lies, however, Mara had that 'I know I'm pretty' feel to her. "It is peaceful. It's why I'm here. As well as the rain mixed with the fresh grass makes it absolutely astonishing." The smell after, before, and during rain gave Jasper a happy mood. "What house were you placed in?" He finally asked her.
note: sorry it's so short.

-that is fine i normally post short too- She smiled at his response because it was a lot like the way she felt too. Mara was really beginning to see Jasper as super cute not just by looks but by action.
To answer his question she said, "I was placed in Slytherin but am not completely sure why. What house are you in?"
Mara began plucking grass out of her hair as she talked. Somehow all the wind had blown some up there.

She was a Slytherin. Jasper known Slytherins to be quit rude and disrespectful, but not all of them were like that. It was just the reputation they carried. Jasper felt that maybe she was unsure because of that reason so he said, "Slytherin? You're most likely cunning, yes? You seem like the kind of girl who knows what she whats and will strive to get it." He smiled at her and at himself for giving yet another compliment. "I'm a Hufflepuff." He added to her question. The house reputation Hufflepuff carried was shy and easily taken down however in Jasper's eyes Hufflepuffs, for the majority, was helpful, nice, and sweet hearted. He also thought certain house rivalry was stupid.

Mara felt her blush deepen a little at the compliment about her cunning being the reason she was a Slytherin. Then she heard him menton he was a Hufflepuff.
"Really? You don't seem like the shy type," Mara said. She felt like biting her tongue all of a sudden.
"There's nothing wrong about being shy if you are," she added hurriedly. Mara nervously smiled at Jasper. She really hoped she hadn't offended him. It was then she began to question the rivalry she had heard of between Slytherin nd Hufflepuff. Why was there such hate in a time they should would together?

A grin came across his face. "Nah, I used to be shy. I got out of that when school came around." Jasper noticed she had seemed nervous by what she had said. He wasn't exactly sure why though unless she didn't mean to say what she did. "How are you liking it here so far?" He asked wondering. "Must be hard right?" Wouldn't it be hard? Their school had been pretty much destroyed, and now they have to go to a school a lot different from Beauxbatons. Not to mention Beauxbatons seems harder then Hogwarts. Jasper stuck his hands in this pockets and shifted his weight toward his right side.

"It is quite different and was frustrating during the first few days but I am adjusting well I guess," Mara said thinking of the day she had moved into the Slytherin dorm. She had dropped her trunk and embarassed herself so very badly.
Mara wondered if perhaps being at Hogwarts would make her a better witch. Here she felt she belonged to a family in a way while at Beauxbaton she had felt quite alone. Despite the akwardness, Hogwarts seemed to be the healthiest place for Mara to be.
